Congresswoman Tenney Announces $10 Million in Community Project Funding for Batavia Water Tower

Batavia, NY - Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24)today held a press conference in Batavia to announce $10 million in Community Project Funding for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to support critical water and wastewater infrastructure improvements across Genesee County, including upgrades to the Batavia Water Tower and the countywide water system.

The funding supports Genesee County's federally authorized Section 219 environmental infrastructure project and advances the next phase of a countywide water initiative focused on improving water security and system resiliency in a drought-challenged region. A central component of the project is the VA Water Storage Tank, which supplies approximately 40% of the county's drinking water. The planned expansion will increase storage capacity by one million gallons, providing relief to the Batavia Water Treatment Plant, strengthening public health safeguards, and reducing constraints on economic activity. The county's water system is relied upon by major employers and agricultural operations.

"Genesee County recognized the strain on its water system and acted before it became a crisis," said Congresswoman Tenney."This $10 million investment moves a long-term plan forward that protects public health, supports local jobs, and ensures our community has the infrastructure needed to grow. By strengthening water storage and reliability, we're giving families, farmers, and employers the confidence that Genesee County can meet today's needs and plan responsibly for the future. I will continue working to deliver targeted investments like this to bring taxpayer dollars back home and strengthen communities across NY-24."
