DCHA Youth Get VIP Experience at Washington Commanders Training Camp

August 11, 2025 4:00 PM

The start of the NFL season is a few weeks away, but for two dozen DC Housing Authority youth, the excitement kicked off early with an unforgettable day at the Washington Commanders Training Camp.

The kids traveled to the OrthoVirginia Training Center at Commanders Park in Ashburn, Va. for a behind-the-scenes look at how NFL players prepare for the season. The trip was made possible through the generous support of the Green Family Foundation and continues an annual tradition that gives DCHA youth a unique chance to connect with the world of professional sports.

They watched the Commanders in action during practice, collected autographs, and got to meet some of the team's rising stars - including Jayden Daniels, Frankie Luvu, Tyler Owens, Percy Butler, and Tyre Phillips.

A highlight of the day was meeting NFL Hall of Famer and Commanders legend Darrell Green. The former cornerback, whose jersey number was officially retired by the team in 2024, took time to sign autographs for every DCHA youth in attendance.

The Commanders also provided breakfast, a boxed lunch, refreshments, and a swag bag full of official team gear. Local news station NBC4 Washington captured the special visit and spotlighted Green's ongoing work with DC youth.

For the DCHA youth who attended, the day offered more than just autographs and team gear - it was a chance to dream big, be inspired by role models, and make memories that will last far beyond the football season.
