February Environmental Horticulture Program

The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Environmental Horticulture program for February 2026. Environmental Horticulture Agent Cynthia Nazario-Leary and Master Gardener volunteers are offering this program.

Gardening Solutions- Feb. 10, 2026, from 2:30-4 p.m., at the Alachua County Ag Auditorium (22716 W. Newberry Road, Newberry).

This event is a three-part presentation dedicated to sustainable landscaping practices. The presentation will begin with an introduction to the Florida-Friendly Landscaping principles that relate to growing and maintaining native species, with a highlight on how native plants can become a part of the "homegrown national park" initiative in your garden.

The second part of the presentation will focus on the characteristics and management of Smilax, with various Smilax species available for educational purposes to aid in identification. The program will conclude with a feature on plants that thrive in low-light and shady conditions, and how they can become a valued addition to an underutilized garden space.

There is no registration fee, but participants must register online. It is limited to 100 participants.
