Perry County Woman Sentenced for Attempting to Kill Federal Law Enforcement Officers

LONDON, Ky. - A Scuddy, Ky., woman, Ashley Begley, 31, was sentenced on Wednesday to 120 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Robert Wier for using, carrying, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.

According to her plea agreement, on September 24, 2025, Begley attempted to kill federal law enforcement officers while they were engaged in their official duties. Specifically, law enforcement officers went to Begley's residence in Perry County to locate and arrest her husband, who had an active state warrant for a drug offense, and to investigate allegations of drug trafficking by Begley and her husband. Law enforcement officers clearly identified themselves as police through their clothing and substantial communication with Begley when they arrived at the residence. When law enforcement located and arrested Begley's husband, they also attempted to speak to Begley and her husband about fentanyl trafficking. As some officers were driving away, Begley retrieved a firearm and fired a shot in the direction of the vehicle, striking the front end and becoming embedded in the engine block.

Jason Parman, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Jim Scott, Special Agent in Charge, DEA, Louisville Field Division; and Sheriff Bobby Jones, Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, jointly announced the sentence.

The investigation was conducted by the DEA and Pulaski County Sheriff's Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sam Dotson and Kelly Ridings prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
