$28.3 Million in Road Projects Move Forward Across Marion County

SW 27th Avenue (CR 475A) Task B
Plans are progressing for a new roundabout at SW 66th Street. The preliminary engineering report is underway, and the county commission held a workshop July 7. A public open house was held Aug. 13, at Trinity Catholic High School. Final county commission approval is targeted for Sept. 1.

SR 40 at NW/SW 80th Avenue
Construction continues at this intersection, including new lanes and reconstruction of the traffic signal. Signal poles have been installed, and limerock, curb, and gutter work is underway. Drainage retention area construction and utility relocation are also ongoing. Construction is estimated to be complete in October 2026.

NW 80th/70th Avenue Segment 3
The county awarded the construction bid Aug. 4, to Art Walker Construction, Inc., for the project adding two lanes from West Highway 40 to North U.S. Highway 27. A pre-construction meeting was held Aug. 11. Right-of-way acquisition and utility coordination are being finalized.

SW 38th/40th Street
A right-of-way and stormwater agreement with On Top of the World was completed June 16, for this project, which will add two lanes from SW 80th Avenue to SW 43rd Court. The county continues to coordinate with the City of Ocala and the Federal Aviation Administration on right-of-way and stormwater discharge requirements. Right-of-way acquisition continues.

NW 49th/35th Street Phase 3
The county is evaluating a design alternative for a roundabout at NW Highway 225A and NW 49th Street/NW 44th Lane. Right-of-way acquisition continues for the new four-lane road from County Road 225A to NW 44th Avenue.

SW 27th Avenue (CR 475A) Task A
The county is reviewing an alternative alignment for the project to elevate the roadway from SW 66th Street to 1.8 miles north of SW 66th Street. The alternative could reduce the amount of right-of-way needed and minimize impacts to properties. Coordination continues with Red Oak Farm, Glen Hill Farm, and other property owners along the corridor.

Marion Oaks Manor Extension
The county continues work on the planned extension from SW 49th Court Road to South Highway 475. The project includes adding two lanes, constructing a new four-lane road, and building a new overpass over I-75. The project development and environmental study is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026. Thirty percent design began in May and is expected to be completed in February 2027. Property purchase opportunities are also developing.

SW 80th Avenue Segment 2
Design continues for the project adding two lanes from 0.62 miles north of SW 38th Street to SR 40. The county received 60% plans July 28, and is coordinating utility relocations with SECO to reduce conflicts during design and construction. Design is estimated to be complete in April 2027.

Additional projects moving forward

SW 49th Avenue Segment F
The new four-lane road from Marion Oaks Manor to 0.7 miles south of County Road 484 is 75% complete for asphalt paving, curb, and gutter installation. Traffic signal poles and span wire have been installed, sidewalks are underway, and two of three drainage retention areas are complete.

NW/NE 35th Street Phase 1B
The county is updating the 90% design and revising project sketches and descriptions for the project adding two lanes from 600 feet east of West Anthony Road to NE Jacksonville Road. Coordination continues with the city of Ocala on water, sewer, and electric improvements and relocations. Design is estimated to be complete in October 2026.

NE 35th Street/NE 60th Court
Resurfacing work is progressing from NE 36th Avenue to State Road 40. The Notice to Proceed was issued May 12, and the county continues coordinating with CSX regarding work at the railroad crossing. Construction is estimated to be complete by the end of August 2026.

Marion County will continue to provide updates as these projects advance through construction, design, right-of-way acquisition, and planning. To view county commission agendas or watch meetings on demand, visit MarionFL.org/Agendas.
