The President of the Government of Spain held an informal meeting prior to the European Council, following the invitation extended by the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, and the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni.

The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, attends the informal meeting of the 'Friends of Cohesion' group of countries (Pool Moncloa / Fernando Calvo)
During this meeting, which was held with a view to building on the 'non-paper' on the Multiannual Financial Framework signed by 16 countries, participants reaffirmed their commitment to traditional policies, cohesion policy and the Common Agricultural Policy.
In this context, The President of the Government of Spain argued that Europe will not be able to boost its competitiveness if it does not at the same time reinforce social and territorial cohesion, which is why he reiterated that the continuity and strengthening of traditional policies are the guarantee that economic development and growth reaches all Member States and all regions of Europe.
