Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-ND) reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to defending life this week by helping pass two pro-life bills that protect access to pregnancy support services. She also encouraged 250 North Dakota students from Shanley High School, St. Mary's High School, and Our Newman Fellowship attending the March for Life in Washington, D.C., to seize the mantle as the next generation of pro-life leaders, and work tirelessly to build a culture of life in our nation.
"The pro-life cause is more than a political position. It's a conviction rooted in the belief that we are called to defend the most innocent among us-the unborn-who cannot defend themselves. They have value, a right to life, and are made in the image of God," Fedorchak said. "North Dakota has always been a place that values life, family, and responsibility, and it is my honor to uphold those beliefs as North Dakota's Congresswoman."
Fedorchak has earned an A+ rating on the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America's National Pro-Life Scorecard, and a 100% rating from the Family Research Council.
Fedorchak pointed to several pro-life, pro-family policies she supported in the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, signed into law last year, that help make it easier for families to welcome a child and build a strong future:
This week, Fedorchak helped pass the Pregnant Students' Rights Act and the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act, legislation that offers support to pregnant students and protects federal funding available for pregnancy resource centers.
"Unplanned pregnancies can bring fear, uncertainty, and loneliness-which is why being pro-life must always be paired with compassion at all stages. These bills protect pregnant students from being sidelined in school and help states partner with pregnancy resource centers that provide diapers, baby clothes, counseling, and other critical help for families," Fedorchak added.
H.R. 6359, the Pregnant Students' Rights Act, amends the Higher Education Act to require that all colleges and universities inform students of their rights and protections to carry a pregnancy to term, like modified class schedules, excused absences, and more. It also requires universities to inform students how to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education if there is a violation of Title IX protections for pregnant students.
H.R. 6945, the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act, comes after the Biden administration issued a proposed rule that singled out pregnancy resource centers and suggested that state use of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds to support these organizations could be disallowed in the future. This legislation prohibits discrimination against pregnancy resource centers and clarifies that TANF funds may be used for pregnancy centers, allowing states the flexibility to direct resources toward programs that help parents in need.
Additionally, Fedorchak has supported commonsense legislation to protect women, children, and the unborn in her first year in office, including:
