The Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Peru welcomes the official announcement of the results of the presidential election held on April 12, which confirms the candidacies of Fuerza Popular and Juntos por el Perú as participants in the runoff election.
The OAS Mission, headed by former Secretary General of the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), Víctor Rico Frontaura, recognizes the citizens and political actors who patiently and democratically awaited the electoral results.
Ahead of this second presidential election, the OAS/EOM calls on both the electoral authorities of the Peruvian system and political and social actors to conduct the process with a strong sense of democratic responsibility, avoiding confrontations or threats, as well as rhetoric that could generate social division.
The OAS/EOM in Peru makes a special appeal to the competing candidates to ensure that their campaigns are based on ideas and clear government proposals.
The OAS/EOM for the presidential runoff election will be composed of more than 90 observers and will have a presence throughout the national territory and in several cities abroad.
