HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) made several stops in Mason and Cabell counties.

First, Senator Capito traveled to Ashton, W.Va., where she toured Artis' Sitra test range and viewed a live fire demonstration of the active protection system, Sentinel. Senator Capito has long championed Active Protection Systems (APS), which Artis tests at its site in West Virginia.

"It was great to be with the Artis team today in Ashton and to see first-hand their incredible Active Protection Systems. These systems are vital to our national security, and I am proud that West Virginia plays a role in their development. I will continue to champion American companies like Artis that work to ensure we are well-equipped to face twenty-first century security challenges," Senator Capito said.

"Artis is honored to welcome Senator Capito to the Artis West Virginia test range to witness live-fire tests of our Sentinel active protection system. As the war in Ukraine has made clear, protecting our troops from killer drones and highly proliferated missiles is essential on the modern battlefield. With Sentinel, West Virginia is leading the way with the world's most capable and sophisticated protection system to defeat these threats, allowing our troops to accomplish their missions and come home. This West Virginia range has been a vital and central component to the development of this highly advanced capability, which we at Artis are now proud to demonstrate to the Senator," Keith Brendley, Artis CEO said.

Next, Senator Capito stopped in Apple Grove, W.Va. to see the progress on the construction at the Nucor Steel site and to meet with key executives from the Nucor team.

"I had a wonderful time meeting with the Nucor team and seeing the progress at the Apple Grove facility. Nucor's historic investment in West Virginia not only brings good paying jobs to the region, but puts our state at center stage in supporting critical infrastructure and national security efforts in the future," Senator Capito said.

"The Nucor team extends our sincere appreciation to Senator Capito for her continued support of our West Virginia sheet mill project. We are proud of the progress made since her visit last fall. Construction is now approximately two-thirds complete and the project remains on schedule to begin ramping up by the end of 2026. We appreciated the opportunity to host Senator Capito and her team again today and share how this investment is already creating opportunities and strengthening our local communities," Johnny Jacobs, Vice President and General Manager of Nucor Steel West Virginia, said.

Last, Senator Capito traveled to Huntington, W.Va. to join Marshall University First Lady Alys Smith at the third annual Women Warriors Summit. The summit's mission is to provide a platform for all women in West Virginia to access developmental empowerment opportunities and build meaningful relationships that enable them to foster professional and personal growth.

"I'm grateful to First Lady Alys Smith for her invitation to join in today's Women Warriors Summit and celebrate the incredible, hardworking women from across our state. This is a wonderful initiative, and I look forward to continuing to support it in the years to come," Senator Capito said.
