On 9 April, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys attended the conference "Shared Values, Shared Security: The Nordic-Baltic Partnership at 35 and the Path Forward," held to mark the 35th anniversary of the Nordic Council of Ministers' Office in Lithuania.
The conference discussed the evolution of Nordic cooperation with Lithuania-from the time when Lithuania had yet to achieve broad international recognition, through their active support for Lithuania's accession to the European Union and NATO, to the present day. The conference also looked at the prospects for future regional cooperation and ways to further enhance joint activities aimed at creating a safer, more resilient, and more integrated Nordic and Baltic region.
"The activities of the Nordic Council of Ministers' Office in Lithuania began before Lithuania was officially recognized as an independent state. This is a sign of political will and trust that gave impetus to a young state. After 35 years, we can enjoy the results of this work-a region that is stronger and more integrated than ever before," said the Minister.
The conference was also attended by Karen Ellemann, Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, and Ville Väyrynen, President of the Nordic Council.
