Access card at CERN: rules and good practice

Your access card is personal and plays a key role in ensuring collective security at CERN

Whether you are a staff member, contractor, retiree, family member or a member of a CERN club, you hold a personal CERN access card. This card is your key to the Organization's sites: on foot, by bicycle, motorcycle or car, simply present it at the card reader installed at each entrance, and remember: if you are travelling by car, all occupants - driver and passengers alike - must badge individually.

Once on site (within the CERN perimeter), your access card must be worn visibly and at all times, and must be presented whenever requested by a Security officer. The card is strictly personal: lending it to another person is prohibited.

If you are a staff member or contractor and forget your card at home, you can generate a temporary day card directly from your mobile phone using this link: adams-mobile.web.cern.ch

If you encounter a difficulty - for example if your card is not recognized at an access point and no Security officer is present - simply use the intercom. The Security Service control room is available 24/7 and will open the door once your access rights have been verified.

Visitors with a guarantor, or those registered for an Indico event and holding an access card not recognized by the system, should also contact a Security officer or, if none is present, use the intercom.

The Security Service thanks you for your cooperation in ensuring that CERN remains a safe and secure working environment for all.
