Health Science Professionals ratify collective agreement

VICTORIA - Members of the Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association (HSPBA) have voted to ratify a renewed collective agreement.

The agreement is based on the 2025 Balanced Measures Mandate and includes some additional funding to support service delivery and improve working conditions for health-science professionals across the sector, including measures to address critical staffing pressures, significant investment in professional development, and new reimbursements for professional fees that put HSPBA members on a more equal footing with other health-sector occupations.

The agreement between the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC) and the HSPBA covers just over 25,000 health-science professionals working as medical technologists, medical radiation technologists and physiotherapists, as well as other occupations from within the medical and laboratory disciplines, pharmacists, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers and physiotherapists.

The HSPBA represents members from six constituent unions, more than three-quarters of which are from the Health Sciences Association, followed by the BC General Employees' Union, the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Professional Employees Association, the Health Employees' Union and BC Nurses' Union.

HEABC board members will vote on the agreement in early April.

Negotiations under the 2025 Balanced Measures Mandate support government's key priorities to protect and strengthen critical services in B.C.'s public sector, to maintain labour stability in a complex round of bargaining and to support the Province's efforts to find operational efficiencies that preserve front-line services.

Currently, more than 220,000 people are covered by tentative or ratified agreements reached in the 2025 round of bargaining.
