City of McKinney Parks and Recreation Department Achieves Prestigious CAPRA Accreditation

The City of McKinney is proud to announce that its Parks and Recreation Department has been awarded national accreditation through the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The recognition places McKinney among the top park systems in the country and reflects the city's ongoing investment in quality of life.

"Parks and open spaces are at the heart of McKinney's unique by nature character," said Parks and Recreation Director Amy Kinkade. "Accreditation means that McKinney residents can have confidence in the city's continued investment in quality of life."

McKinney's 3,000 acres of parkland, 100+ miles of trails, and growing network of recreation facilities show how the city has worked intentionally to ensure that every neighborhood has access to quality outdoor spaces.

The CAPRA accreditation recognizes McKinney's dedication to:

  • Protecting green space and preserving natural areas for future generations.
  • Offering diverse recreational opportunities that support active lifestyles.
  • Ensuring that all residents, regardless of background or ability, have access to safe and inclusive parks.
  • Implementing environmentally responsible practices in park development and operations.

CAPRA evaluates agencies on 154 standards, from financial responsibility and professional development to safety and community engagement. Meeting these benchmarks demonstrates that McKinney's Parks and Recreation Department is among the best in the nation.
