HUNTERS ADVISED OF HURRICANE LOWELL IMPACTS ON LĀNAʻI MOUFLON SHEEP SEASON

HONOLULU - Hurricane Lowell has damaged Kaumālapaʻu Harbor and disrupted supply deliveries to Lānaʻi. The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) advises hunters participating in the remainder of the 2026 Lānaʻi Mouflon Sheep hunting season to bring their own supplies whenever possible.

Carrying personal supplies will help reduce demand on local businesses and available resources for Lānaʻi residents. This includes food, drinking water and other essentials. While repairs to the harbor are underway and the harbor is expected to resume operations Sunday while repairs continue, the timeline for the resumption of regular supply deliveries remains unknown.

Hunters should also be aware that fuel availability on Lānaʻi is uncertain and those renting vehicles are strongly encouraged to contact their rental provider before traveling, to confirm any fuel-related limitations.

"Forestry and Wildlife staff appreciate the cooperation and consideration of hunters as they participate in the remainder of the Lānaʻi Mouflon Sheep season," said Jason Omick, wildlife program manager at DOFAW. "We encourage hunters to come prepared and be mindful and respectful of the circumstances the Lānaʻi community is experiencing."

Hunting activities will continue as scheduled, subject to applicable hunting rules, regulations and area conditions. Hunters are encouraged to monitor DLNR and DOFAW announcements for any additional information that may affect hunting activities or access to Lānaʻi. DOFAW staff thanks hunters for their cooperation, consideration and continued support of the Lānaʻi community.
