As Inflation Hits 3 Year Highs, Republican Candidates for Governor Still Dismissing Concerns About Rising Costs

Yesterday, inflation hit a three-year high and outpaced wage growth thanks to Donald Trump and Republicans' cost-raising Iran war and expensive agenda, and Trump himself even praised rising prices, saying, "I love the inflation."

However, instead of fighting to lower costs or standing up for their states, Republican candidates for governor have been dismissing concerns and even arguing that costs aren't skyrocketing as families across the country are feeling squeezed at every turn.

  • In Arizona, Andy Biggs said Trump had "tamed" inflation and dismissed concerns about rising costs.
  • In Nevada, Joe Lombardo said that Nevadans should "feel a little pain" from Trump's tariffs, despite costs skyrocketing and tourism plummeting in the Silver State. A new ad supporting Lombardo is also downplaying economic concerns.
  • In Michigan, John James praised Republicans in DC for "keeping prices low," as gas prices skyrocket and Michigan families struggle to make ends meet.
  • In Ohio, Vivek Ramaswamy said that the higher costs hardworking families are struggling to afford are only "perceived," despite Ohio families paying $1,532 more in expenses last year than in 2024. He also dismissed Ohioans that are feeling the squeeze of rising costs while saying that the solution to the inflation crisis - which he helped cause - is simply to make more money.
  • In Georgia, prior to Trump starting the Iran war, Burt Jones said: "We've had enough of people telling us $4 for gasoline is okay." Yet now that gas is up to $4 and going up in Georgia, he has been silent, saying instead: "I trust President Trump and what he's doing over there in Iran."

"As American families feel the burden of rising gas and groceries prices, GOP candidates for governor are not only supporting Donald Trump's cost-hiking agenda but also broadly dismissing concerns with deeply out-of-touch comments," said DGA Communications Director Sam Newton. "At every turn, these candidates would rather fall in line with the cost-raising D.C. agenda and that's going to cost them at the ballot box in November."
