Metro Public Health Department begins administering flu shots in Preventive Health Clinics

The Metro Public Health Department (MPHD) has begun administering flu shots in preventive health clinics ahead of the 2026-2027 flu season. A flu shot is recommended for anyone ages six months and older. Appointments can be made to get a flu vaccine Monday through Friday.

"Flu season will be here before you know it, and the best time to get your flu shot is before the illness is circulating in our community," said Dr. Laura Varnier, Director of Clinical Services at the Metro Public Health Department. "Getting your flu shot is a great way to help protect yourself and your family this flu season."

Flu shots are currently available in MPHD's three preventive health clinics. Appointments will be available Monday through Friday between 8am and 3:30pm. Walk-ins will not be accepted after 2:30pm. Appointments can be made by phone at the following clinics:

TennCare and Medicare Part B insurance are accepted and fully cover the fee. If this is the way you will be accessing your flu shot, remember to bring your Medicare Part B insurance card. The fee for flu vaccine for adults with private insurance is $40, and a sliding scale is available for those who qualify. For those in need of the high-dose flu vaccine, the cost is $85, with a sliding scale available.

MPHD will also be offering several options for free flu shots in the coming weeks. Flu shots will be offered free of charge ahead of the Metro Council Meeting on Tuesday, October 6th. MPHD is also participating in the annual Fight Flu Day event, offering free flu shots at several locations on October 20th. More information about Fight Flu Day will be shared at a later date. After October 20th, flu shots will be available free of charge in MPHD clinics throughout the rest of flu season.
