The Boulder City Council meeting that had been scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 18, has been cancelled due to uncertainty about whether electricity will have been restored to the facility where these meetings are held.
Power is currently out at the Penfield Tate II Municipal Building, where Council Chambers is located. While it is possible it will be back on by tomorrow evening, Xcel Energy has said it could take up to a few days to fully restore electricity to areas impacted by its Public Safety Power Shutoff. This is because crews will need to manually inspect each part of Xcel's system for potential damage before bringing each part back online.
The city is legally required to provide public notice at least 24 hours in advance of any changes to the scheduling or location of council meetings.
"While we recognize that conditions could improve by tomorrow evening, we must adhere to legal requirements and want to provide timely and transparent information about our plans for anyone who might have been planning to attend the meeting," said Sarah Huntley, director of Communications and Engagement. "We encourage individuals to focus on staying safe through the high wind event and fire danger that current conditions present. The items that were slated for council discussion will be rescheduled for meetings planned in early 2026."
No additional council meetings or study sessions are scheduled for this year. Additional council information is available on the city's website.
