BATON ROUGE, LA - Tuesday, November 4, 2025 - The Office of Mayor-President Edwards, in collaboration with the Mayor's Advisory Council on Veterans Affairs and the Blue Star Mothers of Baton Rouge, will host a special ceremonyat 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in Rhorer Plaza (behind Baton Rouge City Hall) to kick off Veterans Month across Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish.
The event will feature the official Proclamation of November as Veterans Month for the City-Parish, honoring veterans, their families, and the caregivers who provide vital support to those who have served. The Edwards Administration will also highlight a series of community observances and initiatives planned throughout November to recognize the sacrifices and service that strengthen our community.
Among the featured programs is the Hometown Hero Banner Initiative, showcasing approximately 50 banners of local veterans proudly displayed throughout downtown Baton Rouge.
Additionally, the Office of the Mayor-President will unveil a new community program, "Salute and Share," featuring the planting of 249 U.S. Flags in Rhorer Plaza - each flag symbolizing a year of our nation's history. Following the ceremony, citizens will be invited to take a U.S. flag home to honor a veteran or display it in recognition of Veterans Day. All flags have been generously donated by the Blue Star Mothers of Baton Rouge and the Bogan Fire Museum.
This initiative reflects Baton Rouge's continued commitment to celebrating and supporting its veteran community while fostering civic pride and unity throughout the parish.
