WASHINGTON (April 16, 2026) - The American Hospital Association (AHA) today announced that its 2026 Award of Honor will be presented to The John A. Hartford Foundation for its dedication to improving care for older adults. The award is given to individuals or organizations in recognition of exemplary contributions to the health and well-being of our nation through leadership on major health policy or social initiatives. Rani E. Snyder, President, Terry Fulmer, President Emerita, and John Mach, Board Chair, will receive the award on behalf of The John A. Hartford Foundation during a ceremony on April 20 at the AHA Annual Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C.
For more than 40 years, The John A. Hartford Foundation has been dedicated to improving the care of older adults. The foundation has been a critical partner in creating age-friendly health systems, working with the AHA to bring together cross-sector work advancing communities that foster healthy aging. This work is centered around the development and dissemination of the 4Ms Framework (What Matters, Medication, Mentation and Mobility), which is an evidence-based approach to providing high-quality, age-friendly care across all settings.
"The John A. Hartford Foundation has led the charge in enhancing care for older adults to better meet their needs," said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. "The AHA applauds the organization's decades of leadership and advocacy, as their impact continues to help hospitals and health care systems provide better care to older patients."
The John A. Hartford Foundation's grants have been instrumental in promoting education, collaboration and process improvement for health care professionals and facilities caring for older adults. Their support has helped cultivate positive change across the health care field and galvanized policymakers to accelerate a nationwide movement toward age-friendly care.
