This special anniversary edition presents the album as it has never been experienced before. While the original 1976 release was issued without a gatefold or booklet, this expanded vinyl edition features a newly designed gatefold package along with an extensive 20-page booklet that includes rare and previously unseen photographs, archival material, Stephen's first-ever liner notes, and his personal reflections. Drawing from his memories and writings from that era, he shares the stories, emotions, and creative process behind the songs, offering fans a deeper connection to the album.
Reflecting on the milestone, Bishop shares: "I can't believe it. It feels like it was just 1976 yesterday. The '70s were a different time, especially for music. You went to a record store, brought the album home, put it on, and listened from start to finish. No streaming. No downloads. No distractions. Just music in its purest form. This album has meant so much to me over the years, and I'm very grateful it has meant so much to so many people. It felt like the right time to finally share more of that story, and the songs that didn't make the album the first time… they've waited long enough."
For the first time, the album's iconic black-and-white cover artwork has been newly colorized, giving fans a fresh visual perspective on a timeless image while preserving the spirit of the original release. Pressed as a limited edition confetti splatter vinyl, each record is uniquely finished, highlighting its collectible nature and celebrating the spirit of the original recording era with a modern visual touch.
The album will also include two bonus tracks,"Back Again" and"I Don't Know You Anymore," both written during the original Carelessera and seriously considered for inclusion on the album. Their addition provides a fuller picture of Bishop's creative output during this pivotal moment in his career. The 50th anniversary edition will be released through Life's A Bish Records, under license from Universal Music Group, as a limited vinyl-only pressing. No digital or CD versions of this expanded edition are planned, making this a true collector's release for fans and audiophiles alike.
