Albany, Ga. - U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff continues working to support Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany.
Sen. Ossoff, Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, yesterday held a hearing about funding priorities for military construction projects and highlighted key projects in Georgia, including the new communications facilities at MCLB Albany.
In 2023, Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to deliver $6.4 million in planning and design funds for the project, which would provide the installation with a dedicated communications facility to more efficiently support the vital Marine Corps logistics mission, and Sen. Ossoff later secured a key authorization for the project in Fiscal Year 2024.
"In Fiscal Year 2023, I worked alongside the leadership of the installation and the Albany community to secure design funding for a new communications facility to more efficiently support the vital Marine Corps Logistics mission. That communications facility is one of the highest priorities for the Albany community, and essential to the future of the installation. And I am really pleased that the design has come to fruition, that the project is now ready for major construction," Ranking Member Ossoff said.
"Thank you for working with me. Thank you to the Marine Corps for working with me for years to advance this project. I want to remain as helpful as possible throughout the execution of construction. So, what do you need from this Subcommittee to ensure the project is not just completed, but also remains on schedule?" Ranking Member Ossoff asked Lieutenant General Stephen Sklenka, Deputy Commandant for Installations and Logistics, United States Marine Corps.
Lt. Gen. Sklenka told Ranking Member Ossoff the Marine Corps will continue working with the Subcommittee to advance the project and secure funding for construction.
