Descend into Season of Death Awakening

Season of Death Awakening at a Glance

Dark Rituals are creating multiple Ruptures throughout Sanctuary. Ruptures can appear throughout Sanctuary but are more frequent in Helltide Zones. Earn rewards the longer the Ruptures are kept open. Closing Ruptures earns you Glints of Hope which can be redeemed at the reputation board in Zarbinzet for rewards.

Use Pandemonium Fragments gained from the Reputation Board and by defeating the Seasonal Lair Boss to craft Mythic Unique items in the Horadric Cube.

Uncover the Death Cult's Plans

A raven arrives with a perilous warning from an old friend. You are tasked with uncovering the origins of a Death Cult in Zarbinzet. To begin A Gospel of Despair, travel to Kyovashad on the Seasonal Realm and read the ominous scroll.

Pandemonium Ruptures

During Season of Death Awakening, the division between Sanctuary and Pandemonium is ripped asunder by arcane rifts called Pandemonium Ruptures. These rifts call a new family of monsters to slay, the chance to summon a familiar boss, and new opportunities for loot by conquering deadly Deathtoll Chambers.

You will encounter three types of Pandemonium Ruptures. Kill the guardians around Death's Head Idols, creating an open Rupture and casting a ritual ring. The longer you keep the Rupture open, the more rewards you'll earn. Killing monsters and closing Tears will help keep it open. Rupture Goblins can also appear anywhere, opening additional Ruptures.

  • Ruptures (Normal) can spawn throughout the overworld of Sanctuary but are especially prevalent in Helltides.
  • Surging Ruptures can spawn in place of any local event within a Helltide.
  • Colossal Ruptures appear only in the Fields of Desecration, the World Boss Arena southeast of Zarbinzet.

We've reduced the time it takes to close tears within Ruptures, and new Tears appear more quickly. In addition, we've reduced mob density and Elite spawning on Normal difficulty; this was overtuned for early leveling in PTR. You'll also earn more Pandemonium Fragments from sealing Ruptures.

Hunt Realmwalker 2.0

Realmwalkers have reappeared across Sanctuary, summoned to challenge those brave (or foolhardy) enough to tackle the most difficult Pandemonium Ruptures. Completing different types of Pandemonium Ruptures can give the following chances to summon a Realmwalker:

  • Ruptures (Normal): Cannot summon Realmwalkers.
  • Surging Ruptures: Gives a chance to spawn a Realmwalker when Surging Rupture events are completed with Mastery.
  • Colossal Ruptures: Guarantees a Realmwalker spawn when completed.

Conquering the Realmwalker opens a Portal to the Deathtoll Chamber.

Survive the Deathtoll Chamber

The Deathtoll Chamber is a one-room mini-dungeon accessible either by defeating the Realmwalker or inside a Nightmare Dungeon with the Rupture affix after closing enough Tears within Ruptures. Once inside, complete a special Rupture activity for even more rewards.

The Deathtoll Chamber will be the best source for Superior Lair Keys, which are required to open the Seasonal Lair Boss's Hoard in Torment I+.

New Monster Family: The Risen

Gravehounds, members of the new Risen monster family, now appear out of Ruptures and inside the Deathtoll Chamber. When killed, Gravehounds drop orbs that empower the Exarch, a special Risen that absorbs any Orbs that float toward it. Intercept them before they arrive to prevent the Exarch from gaining a powerful attack.

New Seasonal Lair Boss

A new boss enters the fray to terrorize the denizens of Sanctuary. Strike them down with fury.

The Pandemonium Threshold, the Corrupted Reaper's lair, can be found in Zarbinzet. Once you've defeated this boss during the seasonal questline, you'll be able to access them as a repeatable Lair Boss.

This boss requires Superior Lair Keys to open the rewards cache. It will also give the best direct drop chances for both Mythic Uniques and Mythic Unique Upgrade currency (Pandemonium Fragments) than any other activity.

Mythic Uniques 3.0

In Season 14, every Unique can be Mythic. Instead of being an item Rarity, Mythic is now a modifiable Item Quality. You'll have the ability to convert any Unique item into a game-altering Mythic Unique.

This season, any Unique can now drop as a Mythic Unique or be converted into a Mythic Unique using the Horadric Cube or through the Jeweler. Mythic Uniques are always Ancestral and have their Unique Powers increased by 30%. All other affixes roll at maximum values.

You'll be able to craft or earn Mythic Uniques in a few different ways:

  • Craft Mythic Uniques using the Cube. The Seasonal currency, Pandemonium Fragments are a necessary material used to convert Uniques to Mythic Uniques using the Horadric Cube.
    • Pandemonium Fragments can be earned from the Season Reputation board, Resplendent Caches, and from killing the Seasonal Lair Boss.
    • You can also create Mythic Uniques from the Jeweler using Resplendent Sparks and Runes.
  • Defeat the Season Lair Boss, a Corrupted Reaper, for a chance to get a dropped Mythic Unique.
  • Progress through Season Ranks to earn class-specific Mythic Uniques from Mythic Unique Caches.
  • On both Seasonal and Eternal Realms, you'll have a very rare chance to find a Mythic Unique whenever an Ancestral Unique would drop.

Important Note: You can only equip one crafted Mythic Unique. You can equip as many Mythic Uniques you want that were acquired from drops or caches, but you can only have one crafted Mythic Unique equipped at a time.

How Mythic Unique Crafting Works

  • You can start crafting Mythic Uniques starting at level 70 in Torment+ (the recipe does not show up if you don't meet those criteria).
  • Use the Upgrade to Mythic function in the Horadric Cube or Rune Crafting with the Jeweler.
  • Mythic Unique Crafting requires one 850+ Unique item occupying the slot of the item you want to craft (it does not need to be the exact item), plus the following reagents per combination:
    • Horadric Cube: 5 Pandemonium Fragments
    • Jeweler: 18 specific Runes and 3 Resplendent Sparks

A Unique item for a specific slot will produce a Mythic Unique item for the same slot, but not necessarily with the same Unique affix that you put in. There is no advantage to matching the Unique to the one you want to get; Frostburns are not more likely to produce Mythic Frostburns.

Likewise, don't worry about picking a base Unique item for the recipe with specific affixes or GAs, as these are all re-rolled on conversion. You can get random GAs on crafted Mythic Uniques, but these are not guaranteed. And all Mythic Uniques are Ancestral quality, even if the base item was not.

For example, if you want a Mythic Unique Flickerstep boots, you can use any 850+ Unique Boot as a recipe for a chance to roll Mythic Unique Flickersteps. This opens up a wide range of possible base Unique items to roll for what you want. The end result will always be usable by the class crafting the item.

Mythic Unique Crafting Changes from the PTR

During the PTR, when players used the Cube's Upgrade to Mythic function, it would return a random class-usable Mythic Unique from the same general category: Armor, Weapon, or Jewelry. Putting in a pair of Boots might return a random Mythic Unique from any Armor slot item - Boots, Chest, Pants, Gloves, or Helm. Players made it clear that this system made outcomes too broad and random.

In addition, while affixes were maxed, those added through Enchanting, Transfiguration, and Tempering were not. This was also not in keeping with the spirit of the Mythic Unique, which we want to be the best version of itself.

We heard your input and have made the following changes:

Players who put in a Unique for a specific slot will get back a random class-usable Mythic Unique for the same slot. Putting in a pair of Unique Boots will return a random pair of Mythic Unique Boots, mirroring the way the alternate Jeweler method handles these conversions. One-Handed Weapons, Offhands, and Shields all share one slot category, so a Necromancer putting in a One-Handed Weapon Unique may get a Mythic Unique Focus or Shield in return, or vice versa.

Uniques, Mythic Uniques, and Iconic Uniques can now also have one affix rerolled at the Enchanter.

Affixes from Enchanting, Transfiguration, and Tempering are now always max rolls when added to a Mythic Unique.

Iconic Mythic Affix Changes

Iconic Mythics such as Melted Heart of Selig or Ring of the Starless have become "must-have" in many endgame builds, making other Uniques or Legendary Aspects unable to compete for these slots. The combination of powerful Aspects with a predetermined set of strong Affixes on Iconic Mythics was difficult to beat for many builds; indeed, some builds were created around these items in mind.

You can no longer make Iconic Mythics at the Jeweler, but you can still make random Iconic Mythics at the Blacksmith.

All Unique Item Changes

During the PTR, we reduced the number of guaranteed Affixes on all three types of Uniques (normal, Mythic Unique, and Iconic Mythic) to one. Our intention was to open up more room for players to choose versions of Uniques where the affixes fit their build better.

An example of this is the Heir of Perdition, a popular helm for an outsized number of endgame builds. One of its standard affixes gives a bonus to Core Skills. Many popular endgame builds don't even use Core Skills, making this a wasted affix.

However, we heard the feedback from players who felt that reducing the guaranteed affixes diluted the identity of Unique items, and that the predictability of these items was a stabilizing element to many build concepts.

As a result, all Uniques, Mythic Uniques, and Iconic Mythics will have two guaranteed affixes, preserving what makes it distinctive while opening new possibilities for build diversity. You can find a list of all Unique affix changes in the 3.1 Patch Notes, which are linked at the end.
