Agreement includes investments in firefighter pay, a new work schedule, additional flexibility in hiring, and improvements in the promotions process
The Austin City Council approved a new four-year contract with the Austin Firefighters Association at its meeting on Thursday, Dec. 18. The agreement includes investments in firefighter pay, a new work schedule, additional flexibility in hiring, and improvements in the promotions process.
"This contract is a major milestone for the City as we affirm our continued support for our Austin firefighters," said Austin City Manager T.C. Broadnax. "I am proud of the negotiating teams for reaching an agreement that strengthens public safety while implementing a work schedule that prioritizes firefighter wellness."
Key provisions of the contract include:
Funding for the first year of the agreement is included in the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Approved Budget. The total four-year cumulative value of the contract is $63 million.

"This new four-year agreement between the City of Austin and the Austin Firefighters Association demonstrates the City's commitment to these important public servants. The new agreement increases pay, prioritizes wellness, and streamlines the hiring and promotion process.
