Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada Mary Simon to attend the unveiling ceremony of the Inuit sacred spiritual symbol

OTTAWA, Ontario-Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will witness the unveiling of the third Indigenous spiritual symbol, the qulliq, as an approved optional spiritual emblem for engraving on headstones at the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

The unveiling of the qulliq symbol forms part of a broader effort to recognize the diverse cultural and spiritual identities of Canadian Armed Forces members.
