Whitehouse Statement on RI General Assembly Leadership Changes

Providence, RI - U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse today released the following statement regarding leadership changes at the Rhode Island General Assembly:

"I commend Joe Shekarchi on a highly productive and successful speakership. He has been a wonderful partner for our federal delegation, particularly on the issues of increasing the state's housing supply and creating more opportunities for Rhode Islanders, and he has been a long-time personal friend. I wish him all the best as he pursues a seat on the state Supreme Court, as I have long argued that political experience can be a valuable asset on the bench.

"I want to congratulate the incoming leadership team, Representatives Blazejewski and Kazarian. I have confidence that they will be great stewards of the General Assembly as they head into the height of the legislative session to deliver for Rhode Islanders."
