WASHINGTON - Following reports that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) executed a search warrant in the Fulton County election office, near Atlanta, seeking records related to the 2020 election, NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson issued the following statement:

"Once again, Trump's Department of Injustice is using its power for political gain. This is all part of an effort to manipulate elections by targeting Americans who didn't vote for Trump.

Despite Trump's lies about voter fraud in Georgia, judges across the country and even his own attorney general found no evidence. So now he sends in his goons to raid election offices? This is what a weak, sore loser does.

The president needs to focus on righting the economy, releasing the Epstein Files, and reigning in his unqualified and unchecked ICE squad that is murdering Americans in cold blood. Not wasting taxpayer dollars on a wild goose hunt."

The FBI's move to raid the Fulton County election office follows the U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ) attempts to access voter registration information. Last year, under the direction of U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, the DOJ filed suits in federal courts in California, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania in a blatant attempt to undermine voter privacy and suppress civic participation.

Earlier this month, a California court granted NAACP's Motion to Intervene in the lawsuit and to dismiss it, arguing that the DOJ had no right to this information, and that they could use it to suppress the vote. The NAACP will continue to keep this Administration accountable and prevent DOJ's overreach, as it threatens to deepen distrust in elections and disproportionately harm voters most vulnerable to suppression, including young voters, naturalized citizens, and those with past criminal convictions who have returned to civic life.
