CHEMUNG COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS TO HOST PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING FOR CULVERT REPLACEMENT PROJECT IN THE TOWN OF BALDWIN, CHEMUNG COUNTY

The Chemung County Department of Public Works will host a public information meeting from 6:00 PM to7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, pertaining to an upcoming project to replace the culvert carrying County Road 41 (Federal Road) over the tributary to Baldwin Creek in the Town of Baldwin, Chemung County. The culvert is located approximately 0.25 mi south of the intersection between County Road 41 and Joe Green Road.

The informal, open-house style meeting will be held at the Chemung County DPW, 803 Chemung St, Horseheads, New York 14845-2288. Preliminary project plans will be available for review, and representatives from the Chemung County DPW and its consultant, Fisher Associates, will be on hand to answer questions. No formal presentation is planned.

The proposed project will replace the existing culvert with a 15'-0" span by 8'-0" rise precast four-sided box culvert with precast wingwalls that will accommodate all legal loads, including buses and fire trucks, with improved hydraulic performance. The new culvert will be longer than the existing crossing and will be constructed in accordance with modern design standards, enhancing safety and mobility for pedestrians and motorists alike.

It is planned that a portion of County Road 41 will be temporarily closed near the culvert, and an off-site detour will be used during construction. The project is currently in the preliminary design phase, with construction anticipated to begin in 2027.
