Porter Square Shopping Center has long been a high-performing, suburban-style community hub in the heart of Cambridge. Yet, despite its success, the property was showing its age and needed a refresh. Initially, we explored the traditional approach: removing EIFS, introducing materials like wood and stainless steel, and upgrading common areas. At the same time, we partnered with Ten Feet Tall to conduct a comprehensive rebranding analysis. Through that process, we discovered an opportunity to lean into what makes Porter Square truly special-its everyday uniqueness. This is a place where Star Market coexists with Cambridge Naturals, a beloved source for natural wellness products. Where Dunkin sits alongside Café Zing, the local gathering spot for Cambridge's creative community. Rather than follow a conventional path, we embraced a bold, non-traditional direction: painting the red brick, highlighting industrial steel elements, celebrating imperfections, and layering in vibrant murals. We introduced a new halo-lit signage program and created an amenitized outdoor gathering space designed for connection and community. The transformation-still underway with a new name coming soon-reflects the eclectic spirit of Cambridge, celebrates the arts, and invites everyone to experience a revitalized corner of the square. A huge thank you to TA Realty, our client and partner in this journey; PCA Design for early inspiration; Ten Feet Tall for guiding the rebranding process; and the Blind Fox, an extraordinary local artist with a growing national presence, for bringing three stunning murals to life. It's worth the trip…
