A deadline is approaching to provide feedback on two options under consideration for transforming traffic on the streets that make up the Hayward Loop-A Street and Foothill and Mission Boulevard in downtown Hayward.

Safe Streets Downtown, an initiative begun in February 2025, aims to transform The Loop for a safer Hayward Downtown. Through extensive community outreach held in 2025, two approaches have been developed that encapsulate the feedback received from residents, businesses and others.

Now, a decision needs to be made on the direction going forward, and the month of April is the last chance for residents to provide input through a project survey. To have your say, take the survey at: https://fp.mysocialpinpoint.com/hayward-safe-streets-downtown.

Survey results will be reported to the City Council on June 2 as part of a Council meeting work session at which the Mayor and Councilmembers will provide direction to City staff on which of the two Loop transformation options to pursue.

Safe Streets Downtown is one of several projects underway to move Hayward closer to its Vision Zero policy goal of eliminating traffic-related serious injuries and fatalities by 2050.
