WASHINGTON - Today, the NAACP and Young, Gifted, and Green announced the official launch of a new nationwide electoral dashboard called Climate on Your Ballot, a public and transparent platform designed to track where every political candidate stands on climate action and environmental justice in key states and climate issues across the country.
Climate and environmental issues remain a central concern for Americans, coast to coast. From climate change to the expansion of data centers in local neighborhoods, community members are looking to their elected leaders for accountability. Candidates cannot stay silent and communities have a right to know where their future leaders stand. Every candidate running to represent our communities must make their climate positions clear and public.
"Voters deserve to know where candidates stand on the climate and environmental issues that affect their communities. The political landscape on climate is a civil rights concern as it directly impacts the health and safety of our communities," said Abre' Conner, Director of the Center for Environmental and Climate Justice at the NAACP. "At a time when we are learning how decisions by elected officials have contributed to the escalating global climate crisis, Climate on Your Ballot gives voters the information they need to help create a more sustainable future."
Key takeaways of the Nationwide Electoral Dashboard include:
"Every vote on data centers, clean energy, and lead pipes is a vote about the health of mothers and children," said LaTricea D. Adams, Founder, CEO and President of Young, Gifted & Green. "Climate on Your Ballot helps voters see where candidates stand so we can hold them accountable for the air our babies breathe and the water our families drink."
The NAACP and Young, Gifted, and Green encourage community members to help us keep elected officials accountable by contacting their candidates and demanding they share their stance on climate issues. We deserve transparency; our lives depend on it. For more information on the dashboard and how to get involved, visit naacp.org.
