This position was expressed in a joint statement issued following talks between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation of the Republic of Burundi, Édouard Bizimana, and his Moroccan counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita.
The Burundian top diplomat, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom, also reaffirmed his country's support for the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom of Morocco as the only credible and realistic solution to resolve this regional dispute.
He further expressed full support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to facilitate and lead negotiations based on the Autonomy Plan.
In the same vein, the Republic of Burundi welcomed with great satisfaction the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which enshrines the Autonomy Plan under Moroccan sovereignty as the basis for a just, lasting and mutually acceptable settlement of this dispute.
