Welfare Concern At Bayland Park

The Baytown Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a subject who suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Bayland Park, located in the 2600 block of Business Highway 146, after being asked by a neighboring law enforcement agency to conduct a welfare check related to a mental health concern. Upon officers' arrival, they made contact with the subject, who subsequently sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The officers provided immediate lifesaving medical attention until the arrival of Baytown Fire Department personnel. The subject was later transported to a Houston-area hospital for further treatment.

This remains an ongoing investigation. Due to the sensitive nature of the incident, our department is not identifying the individual involved and will not be releasing any information on his condition at this time. The Baytown Police Department will provide any further updates when appropriate.
