The certification marks a significant milestone for both Ukraine's defence industry and the strategic partnership between Paramount Greece and the Ukrainian defence company MAC HUB, confirming the MAC OWL's position as the benchmark for survivability and crew protection in one of the most demanding operational environments in modern warfare.
Developed jointly by MAC HUB and Paramount Greece, the MAC OWL is based on the proven armoured hull architecture of Paramount's Mbombe 4 Infantry Combat Vehicle and incorporates significant localisation, engineering adaptations and battlefield-driven innovations developed by Ukrainian engineers and military personnel.
According to the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the MAC OWL offers the highest levels of protection against mines and ambushes among domestically produced armoured vehicles and features the thickest side armour in its category. The vehicle is certified to withstand blasts up to 10kg TNT equivalent in accordance with STANAG 4569 standards, and its armoured crew compartment provides exceptional all round protection against battlefield threats.
The Ministry's approval follows extensive development, testing and evaluation informed directly by lessons learned from the Russia-Ukraine war, where mine strikes, improvised explosive devices, artillery fragmentation and FPV drone attacks have become defining features of the battlefield.
The vehicle's design reflects more than three decades of operational experience in mine-protected vehicle development, combined with the hard-earned combat lessons emerging from Europe's largest conflict since World War II.
In approving the vehicle, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence highlighted several key capabilities, including:
• Class-leading protection against mines and ambushes
• STANAG 4569-compliant protection against blasts of up to 10kg TNT equivalent
• The thickest side armour among comparable domestic and foreign vehicles in its category
• Comprehensive anti-fragmentation protection throughout the crew compartment
• Integration of up to ten electronic warfare modules to provide enhanced protection against FPV drone threats
• A low-profile design optimised for survivability on the modern battlefield
• Independent suspension and high mobility across challenging terrain
The MAC OWL has been specifically designed to maximise crew survival in contemporary combat operations. Its "Flat V-shaped" blast-deflecting hull, monocoque armoured capsule, shock-absorbing seating systems and advanced survivability architecture provide protection against the evolving threats encountered daily by Ukrainian forces.
A spokesperson for Paramount Greece said:
"The codification and approval of the MAC OWL by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine represents an extraordinary endorsement of the vehicle's design, protection and operational effectiveness. There can be few more demanding proving grounds for military equipment than the battlefields of Ukraine. To be recognised by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence as the best protected locally produced armoured vehicle in the country is a remarkable achievement for both MAC HUB and Paramount Greece."
"The MAC OWL demonstrates the value of combining Paramount's globally recognised expertise in high mobility mine-protected vehicle design with the frontline operational knowledge and manufacturing capabilities of our Ukrainian partners. Together we have created a system specifically engineered for the realities of modern warfare and designed to maximise the survivability of those who serve in it."
The achievement also validates Paramount's industrial partnership model which enables advanced defence technologies to be produced locally through sovereign manufacturing partnerships. Through this approach, Ukraine has been able to rapidly develop and manufacture a next-generation armoured vehicle tailored to its specific operational requirements while strengthening domestic defence industrial capacity.
MAC HUB Director Oleksandr Dubyna explains:
"We drew on the very best of global expertise in the design and production of armoured vehicles and took into account the unique realities of the war being fought in Ukraine. Our primary mission was to protect the lives of the MAC OWL armoured vehicle's crew. To achieve that, we selected only the most reliable, combat-proven components, integrated the latest technologies, and spent countless hours refining every detail.
"At a time when service members are sometimes forced to use civilian vehicles in what is known as the kill zone - an area that continues to expand as warfare becomes increasingly technology-driven - our vehicle is designed to save lives."The certification of the MAC OWL represents another major operational milestone of the long-term strategic collaboration between Paramount Greece and MAC HUB, and underscores the growing importance of European-Ukrainian defence industrial cooperation in addressing current and future security challenges."
As Ukraine continues to expand and modernise its fleet of mine-resistant protected vehicles, the MAC OWL now stands as the country's most highly protected domestically produced MRAP platform, developed in wartime conditions and validated by the combat realities of the modern battlefield.
