Enthusiastic students from high schools in the areas where Alcoa operates joined more than 200 young women from across Western Australia at the annual Inspiring Girls Careers Forum, held at Perth's Optus Stadium.
Students from schools in areas near Alcoa's Huntly and Willowdale bauxite mines - and the Pinjarra and Wagerup alumina refineries - were invited to attend the forum as guests of Alcoa.
The Inspiring Girls Careers Forum is held annually to showcase the resources industry to female students years 10-12. Through engaging activities and direct interaction with industry leaders, the forum helps students make informed decisions about their education and career pathways.
Students supported by the Pinjarra refinery were participants in the long-running Pinjarra Prospects Program, which aims to spark interest and promote awareness of the diverse career pathways available to women.
Now in its ninth year, the program continues to provide students with hands-on experiences, mentoring opportunities, and exposure to real-world industry environments.
The Inspiring Girls Careers Forum is a key event in the program's calendar, offering students the chance to hear from female industry leaders, participate in interactive activities, and engage in "speed careering" sessions with representatives from a range of resource companies.
Alcoa Pinjarra Alumina Refinery Community Relations Adviser Sarah Parson's said the event was a valuable opportunity for students to explore future career options and connect with professionals working in the sector.
"This event aligns strongly with the objectives of our Pinjarra Prospects Program - to inspire young women, build their confidence, and help them understand the many rewarding career pathways available in the WA resources industry and at Alcoa," Parson said.
Julie Gray, Career Practitioner at Pinjarra Senior High School, said the forum was a highlight for students and a powerful tool for career education.
"Alcoa's ongoing support of our students through the Prospects Program and events like the Inspiring Girls Careers Forum is incredibly impactful," Gray said. "It's wonderful to see our students interacting with industry professionals, gaining insights, and building networks that will help shape their futures."
Waroona District High School was another participant. Principal Gareth Smith said the event opened students' eyes to the exciting career paths available in the resources sector.
"We are incredibly grateful to Alcoa for sponsoring our students to attend the Inspiring Girls Forum," Gareth said. "The event was a powerful opportunity for our students to hear from inspiring female leaders and build confidence in their own future potential.
"Experiences like these are invaluable in shaping aspirations and broadening horizons."
