Demobilization Ceremony Remarks
June 14, 2026
Good afternoon to the families, friends, and members of the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team. On behalf of the state of Oregon, and as your commander and chief, thank you, and welcome home.
Just over a year ago, I had the honor of attending your mobilization, and we wished you a safe deployment to the Horn of Africa. I was honored then, and I am honored now.
You served as security forces for contingency locations in in Ghana, Kenya, Somalia, and Djibouti. You helped ensure the safety and security of the Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa for the U.S. Africa Command. Whether it be exercises or real world events, each of you played a part in maintaining security and partnerships that will endure and continue safety in the region. I can't tell you how happy I am to welcome you back, safe and sound.
In the time since becoming Governor, I have activated the Army and Air National Guard for state active-duty missions to help communities during wildfires and to help rescue missing persons, injured civilians following vehicle and climbing accidents, and lost hikers from wilderness areas. Oregon's brave service members, including you, have helped save countless lives and have recovered remains to return to their loved ones.
I am always humbled by your dedication. Time after time, you have answered the call - no matter the mission - no matter the risk - no matter what.
Thank you for the time you sacrificed in service to our country - For all the moments and milestones you missed with loved ones, family and friends. Thank you for your courage, commitment and resolve.
Thank you to the families, friends and employers that kept everything running smoothly at home so that you could focus on your mission. Undoubtedly, the hardships you faced over the last year were only surmountable with the help and love of your support systems.
Thank you to all the civilian employers who graciously supported you and welcomed you home after a year overseas. Our state is better served because you continue to foster opportunities for these men and women to serve in our state's militia.
Collectively, you all exemplify the strength of our country and our willingness to rise to meet any challenge TOGETHER. You make the United States and Oregon stronger - more resilient, and more capable of taking on whatever challenges we face today, and into the future.
Let me close by thanking the service members of the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team for your service to our Country and Oregon.
Welcome home.
