The Spanish military assistance mission of the European Union in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has trained more than 8,000 Ukrainian military personnel.

The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Support of Ukraine (EUMAM UA) in Spain has trained more than 8,000 Ukrainian military personnel since November 2022.

To date, 185 modules covering more than 30 different specialties have been conducted. The courses, which are organized to complement the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, have been very diverse: from Basic Combat Training Courses to more specific ones such as Close Air Support, Combat Engineer, Humanitarian Demining, International Humanitarian Law, Vector Geospatial Data, and Maritime Demining Operations, among others.

Lieutenant Colonel Juan José López, Chief of Staff of the Toledo Training Coordination Centre (TTCC), highlighted "the total involvement of all Spanish instructors in the training of Ukrainian personnel, the high motivation of the latter to be trained in order to contribute to improving the defence of their homeland, as well as Spain's important contribution to this mission, which to date accounts for 10% of the total Ukrainian personnel trained. In this way, Spain contributes to the collective deterrence derived from its membership of the European Union and demonstrates that it is a reliable country that fulfils its international commitments."

In Spain, training activities are led by the TTCC, under the direction of the Operations Command, to which it reports, and coordinates its activities with different international structures, not only within the European Union, but also within the framework of multinational agreements. The TTCC is based in Burgos, which oversees the Combat Training Unit (UFC) in Toledo (a permanent unit that provides both basic training and various specific courses). Some specialities are developed at Army and Navy facilities in various locations throughout Spain.
