Italy votes in favour of UN Resolution supporting the Two-State Solution

Today, Italy voted in favour of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution calling for the establishment of a State of Palestine free from Hamas. The Resolution, which adopts the "New York Declaration on the peaceful resolution of the question of Palestine and the implementation of the two-State solution", was tabled by France and Saudi Arabia. The text states that "Hamas must release all hostages" and that the United Nations General Assembly condemns "the attacks committed by Hamas against civilians on 7 October". Formal recognition will subsequently be undertaken in accordance with the sovereign decisions of individual States.

The Resolution also calls for collective action to bring an end to the war in Gaza and to achieve a just, peaceful and lasting resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on the effective implementation of the two-State solution.

In addition to voting in favour, Italy co-sponsored and contributed to the drafting of the text.
