Morocco, Senegal Maintain ‘Unique Relation in Africa’ - Senegalese FM

"It is a deeply bonded relationship that evolves in line with the expectations of our two heads of state," emphasized Niang following his meeting on Saturday in Luanda with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita.

In a press statement following the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 26th Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU), he praised "the excellent cooperation between our two countries, the steadfast friendship between the Moroccan and Senegalese peoples, and this unique state-to-state character we share in Africa, between Morocco and Senegal."

Emphasizing the determination of both parties to sustain this momentum, he noted that the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss many subjects of common interest, adding that "on all the subjects we discussed, we noted shared points of convergence."

"Zero disagreement. This goes to show that this cooperation remains as strong as ever, and we are determined to take it much further," he pointed out.

For his part, Mr. Bourita said that the meeting, which aligns with a tradition of ongoing consultation between the two countries on bilateral, regional, and continental issues, provided an opportunity to discuss the clear guidelines set by the two countries' Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Senegalese President, "so that the agenda of this ongoing bilateral relationship continues to be enriched and remains dynamic between our two countries."

"Anything we could do would fall short of what this unique bilateral relationship deserves. No other country in Africa has the kind of relationship that Morocco and Senegal have developed over the decades," the minister explained.

He added that the two parties also discussed the roadmap for their bilateral relationship and the means to implement it, as well as ways to revitalize the various mechanisms of this bilateral cooperation.

"We also highlighted our ongoing coordination regarding issues in the Sahel, Atlantic Africa, and other regional and multilateral matters linked to the African continent," Mr. Bourita stated.
