The George Washington University decked the halls and celebrated a season of various holidays across the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses this December. As students navigated final exams and preparing for winter break, the Division for Student Affairs made certain that there would opportunities to take a festive and reflective break to celebrate the holiday season surrounded by friends.
The Mount Vernon Campus tradition, Vern Lights, illuminated the Quad while students gathered to enjoy s'mores, hot chocolate, crafts and cookies. Meanwhile on the Foggy Bottom campus, seasonal displays in Kogan Plaza created a vibrant hub of festivities in the heart of campus. Following a tree lighting earlier in the month, GW Hillel, the Division for Student Affairs and Center for Interfaith and Spiritual Life hosted a Menorah lighting on the first night of Hanukkah featuring remarks from Rabbi Daniel Novick, the executive director of GW Hillel, and University Chaplain Kristen Glass Perez. As December continues, the university will recognize Kwanzaa traditions with the lighting of the Kinara on Kogan Plaza.
GW Today photographers William Atkins and Cooper Tyksinski captured some of the events.
