PBMs Provide Tremendous Value; Without PBMs, It’s Lost

PBMs are the only check against Big Pharma's pricing power. But PBMs do far more than negotiate rebates. PBMs also improve patient health outcomes, encourage generic drug use, and accelerate the pace of new drug development. The scope of services that PBMs provide equates to creating $145 billion in total value for Americans annually, according to research from the University of Chicago.

What would a world without PBMs look like? Without PBMs performing these services, employers and health plans would be on their own, which means 40%, or $58 billion, of the total value PBMs provide would be lost.
