Operational Synergy: DLA Distribution Commander’s Annual Site Visit to San Diego

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. -

Army Brig. Gen. Kevin Cotman, commanding general, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution, and Joe Faris, acting deputy commander, DLA Distribution, recently visited the team at DLA Distribution San Diego, California, reviewing critical logistics operations, engaging directly with personnel, and discussing strategic facility infrastructure to ensure continued mission excellence.

During the visit they met with DLA Distribution San Diego Commander Navy Capt. Phoebe Tamayo, Deputy Greg Levardo, and the local team for in-depth tours of their two primary operational hubs at Naval Base San Diego and Naval Air Station North Island.

"Beyond infrastructure and internal operations, the visit underscored the team's critical role in sustaining warfighter readiness across the region," said Tamayo. "Brigadier General Cotman was able to observe firsthand how our distribution center delivers vital, uninterrupted logistics support to a diverse and high-tempo network of local customers."

Some of their customers include key fleet and regional commands such as Fleet Readiness Center Southwest, Commander Naval Surface Force Pacific, Commander Naval Air Forces Pacific, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and the Marine Aviation Logistics Squadrons stationed at Camp Pendleton and Miramar.

Cotman engaged the workforce on the warehouse floor to gather feedback on the new Warehouse Management System transition. These discussions identified ways for DLA leadership to provide tailored support, optimizing DLA Distribution San Diego's mission capabilities and aligning site operations with broader DLA strategic goals.
