ROCHESTER - Sen. Elder Vogel, Jr. (R-47) announced today two projects in Beaver County will receive $35,000 in Environmental Education Grants program funding, administered by the state Department of Environmental Protection.
"Getting our children involved in learning about the great outdoors and the resources our environment helps them sharpen important skills they should learn," said Vogel. "These projects are a great example of how schools and local organizations are engaging our students."
The approved projects include:
Aliquippa School District was awarded $5,000 for the "Roots of Change: A Living Laboratory for Environmental Education" program. Aliquippa Elementary School will transform its garden into an outdoor classroom where four 5th-grade classes (about 100 students) engage in hands-on environmental investigations aligned with the HMH Grade 5 Science curriculum and PA STEELS standards.
Riverwise Inc. was awarded $30,000 for the "Summer Sustainability Institute 2026," a summer program for middle and high school students in Beaver County that partners with local environmental experts and leaders to provide education on critical environmental issues.
The Environmental Education Grants program provides funds to support a wide range of environmental education projects including meaningful, hands-on programs for students, teacher training workshops and community conservation projects for adults.
