Winter Weather Updates

We are currently under a Winter Storm Watch, with the potential for hazardous road conditions, possible power outages, and other weather-related impacts. Team Concord is ready to respond as conditions change throughout the weekend. Our team continues to actively monitor the forecasts, stage equipment, and coordinate resources, and we are prepared to respond, no matter the conditions - snow, sleet, or ice.

Here's how we're preparing for the potential for winter weather in our city this weekend:

Roadway Treatment and Clearing

Transportation crews began treating City-maintained roads with a brine solution today. The white "stripes" that you see on the roads is the salt brine mixture our crews put out to help keep the roads from freezing ahead of anticipated snow and ice. This work is expected to continue through Friday morning.

City plows and salt/sand spreaders are ready and on standby as we transition into the weekend. Our crews will be working around the clock throughout the winter weather event to keep our City-maintained primary routes clear of ice and snow.

Our partners at NCDOT own and maintain many of the major roads throughout Concord - such as Highway 29, 601, 73, George Liles Parkway and Branchview - and will be working to treat those roads.

If you're curious about who maintains your street or the roads you frequently travel, check out our street ownership map.

Power Outages

In the event of a power outage, do not call 911 unless there is a life-threatening emergency.

Power outages should be reported to your power provider. Both the City of Concord Electric Systems and Duke Energy serve the residents in the City of Concord.

Remember, please be patient as crews may be working in hazardous conditions during and after the storm to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
