New Hires and a New Role on Audience

After an exceptional four years as Metro's desk audience editor, Jennie Coughlin has stepped into the role of senior audience editor on National.

Since joining The Times in 2019, Jennie has proven herself to be among the Audience team's sharpest, most knowledgeable and collaborative editors, leading training sessions across the newsroom and being on top of the day's latest trends before some of us are awake.

Editors on Metro described Jennie as the desk's "secret weapon," where she helped The Times find audiences for big stories like historic city elections and Trump on trial, while using data to identify new opportunities for key desk franchises such as Metropolitan Diary.

I can think of no better audience editor to help us find new readers for coverage of the country, a view shared by her colleagues on National. "Jennie is a true audience maestro, and a real partner to the editing team on National," said Nestor Ramos. "She has the ability to dive into complex reams of audience data and emerge with sharp, actionable insights. If the answer exists, she knows how to find it. She makes our report better every single day."

In addition to her work on National, Jennie will continue to serve as a leader on the growing Desk Audience Editors team and the Audience team as a whole, as well as a partner to me as we continue to refine how we collaborate across the newsroom to help our report be as sharp and well-read as it can be every day.

Jennie joined The Times in 2019 as a member of the Search team. Previously, she worked in local newsrooms in New Jersey, upstate New York, Virginia and Massachusetts.
