The U.S. Department of Transportation's (USDOT) Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today released its fall 2025 update to the National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD), a set of nationwide geographic databases of transportation facilities, networks, and associated infrastructure.
Due to the lapse in appropriations, not all anticipated updates to NTAD's data layers were able to occur. We will update additional layers once the lapse in appropriations has ended.
This data release features the addition of five (5) new Beta National Hazard Exposure layers for the following transportation infrastructure:
The Beta Hazard Exposure Layers provide a nationally consistent overview of transportation infrastructure and assets alongside geographic exposure to natural hazards based on modeled likelihood and historic occurrence. The Beta Hazard Exposure Layers are intended for national and regional analysis, along with planning and screening purposes, rather than supporting site-specific engineering or design decisions. These geospatial datasets enable decision-makers and practitioners to assess the exposure of critical infrastructure, including airports, ports, bridges, roads, and railways, to hazards. These geospatial layers support the aims of the Transportation Vulnerability and Resilience (TVAR) Data Program, by providing data to help local and state agencies assess and respond to threats to transportation infrastructure.
The updated layers in this release include:
About the National Transportation Atlas Database
NTAD data is available for download in the following formats: File Geodatabase, Shapefile, GeoJSON, comma-separated values (CSV), Keyhole Markup Language (KML), and more through the BTS Geospatial Data Catalog. Additionally, Web Feature Services (WFS) are available for NTAD datasets. Download our public catalog offering and locate the 'URL' column to find a dataset's web service URL. Vector Tile services are available for select NTAD datasets and are best used for cartographic and visualization purposes and may be found in the NTAD Vector Tile Group(link is external).
BTS now uses a dynamic NTAD publication cycle, with updated data released throughout the year as they become available from their respective government agencies.
