WASHINGTON - Today, Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) introduced the Secure Takedown and Obstruction Prevention (STOP) Act to increase criminal penalties for those who barricade themselves while federal law enforcement officers are conducting arrests.
"Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities, and they deserve to know that we have their backs," said Senator Moreno. "My STOP Act will hold criminals accountable for creating unpredictable and dangerous environments that may threaten their safety. I will always stand by Ohio's brave men and women in blue."
Senator Moreno's STOP Act establishes a new federal offense for criminals who barricade themselves to evade arrest by a federal law enforcement officer. Individuals found guilty of barricading can face fines, imprisonment, or both. If the act causes physical harm, involves a deadly weapon, or puts a third party at risk, the penalty increases.
