Comfort clinic available at Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services

Comfort clinics are returning to Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) this season, with the first scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The comfort clinic is sensory-friendly and will offer extra comfort measures to patients, including anxiety-reducing activities, private rooms for vaccinations, distraction tools and volunteers trained in evidence-based child life therapeutic interventions.

Residents will be able to get the flu vaccine for all ages, and the COVID-19 vaccine for ages six months and older for those with private insurance. PHHS is working with the state of Missouri to obtain the COVID-19 vaccine for children younger with Medicaid and for those who are uninsured. A high-dose flu shot is available specifically for those aged 65 and older.

The cost of the flu and COVID-19 vaccines will vary depending on insurance coverage. A list of the insurance providers accepted through the VaxCare billing system can be found at CoMo.gov/Health/Clinical-Services. For self-pay residents, the cost of the flu vaccine is $40, the high-dose flu vaccine for those aged 65 and older is $85, and the COVID-19 vaccine is $125.

The PHHS clinic accepts cash, credit cards, debit cards, checks and can bill various insurance plans through a system known as VaxCare. Receipts will be available upon request. Some insurance providers may be out of network.
