Title of talk: "Medical Misinformation"

Brief bio:
Karen Johnson, MD, MPH is an Endowed Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine with a joint appointment in the Division of Cardiology. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Preventive Medicine and has a Master's of Public Health. For the past 35 years, her work has centered on large-scale interventional and observational studies of adults in the areas of women's health, cardiovascular disease, obesity, smoking cessation and substance abuse / opioid use, as well as risk factors associated with chronic disease and aging including social determinants of health, diabetes and hypertension. Dr. Johnson is currently the MPI of a National Cancer Institute (NCI) grant to leverage technology to address obesity to prevent cancer in primarily underserved African American adults. She is also currently a MPI on a grant to examine the causes of bone loss during weight loss in the Look AHEAD study which is funded by the NIDDK. Dr. Johnson is the Chair of the national Ancillary Studies Committee for the Women's Health Initiative and a member of the national WHI Steering Committee. She has been course director for the Randomized Clinical Trials Course in the Masters of Epidemiology degree program and actively mentor junior faculty, residents, fellows and students in clinical research methods.
