On June 18, 2026, H.E. Mrs. Dilma Rousseff, President of the New Development Bank (NDB), met with H.E. Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on the sidelines of the 5th Anniversary Tashkent International Investment Forum.

President Dilma Rousseff welcomed Uzbekistan's accession to the NDB as a new member country. She recognized the country's important role in the Central Asian region and Uzbekistan's unique position as a transit, trade and connectivity hub at the crossroads of Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. It was highlighted that Uzbekistan became the New Development Bank's tenth member and the first Central Asian country to join the institution.

During the meeting, NDB President Dilma Rousseff commended President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's strategic vision and deep understanding of Uzbekistan's development challenges, noting the remarkable progress Uzbekistan has achieved over the past eight years.

President Dilma Rousseff reaffirmed the New Development Bank's commitment to finance infrastructure and sustainable development projects addressing Uzbekistan's most pressing development priorities, including in the areas of clean energy, water resource management, public utilities, digital and social infrastructure, and transport. The meeting discussed a portfolio of projects that could be financed by NDB, with the Bank's expertise and knowledge-sharing support.

The sides also discussed plans for hosting major NDB events in Uzbekistan in the future.
