The Sri Lanka Army has actively joined the nationwide dengue prevention campaign by conducting extensive cleaning and awareness programmes across the island.
In addition to the programme conducted by the Ministry of Health, the Tri-Forces launched a coordinated dengue control initiative on the morning of 4 July. As part of this effort, troops of 1 Corps and personnel serving under the Security Force Headquarters carried out special cleaning programmes across their respective Areas of Responsibility (AORs).
Accordingly, troops of 1 Corps (Iranamadu) together with personnel of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni, East, and West organized and conducted community-based dengue prevention programmes within their respective areas.
With the increased risk of dengue transmission during the rainy season, the programmes primarily focused on eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites. Army personnel removed stagnant water collection points and cleared mosquito breeding grounds along main roads, in residential areas, and around public spaces.
In addition, troops cleaned blocked drainage systems and cleared overgrown vegetation surrounding public areas, contributing to a cleaner environment and supporting ongoing national efforts to prevent the spread of dengue.
